Pisreóg Project
The Pisreóg Project, was a project designed and led by people in the Travelling community.
Over several months, Traveller beoirs / women in Ballymun collected and documented the traditions, folklore, practices and customs within the community and seven commissioned artists then responded to the collected materials in their own art form – the exhibition was shown at Axis Ballymun in 2023.
Over the course of several months, St Margaret’s Travellers Community Association engaged in a process in which the community shared their own stories, tales, insights, customs, using the Wheel of the Year as the framework for exploring the multiple narratives, understandings and interlacing of heritage, identity, expression and actions.
These collected Pisreógs were collated into a publication that includes a variety of themes, a calendar and a glossary of Gammon Cant terms, providing a unique insight into the cycle of the year from a Traveller perspective – rich with the community’s connection to the land, histories and age-old practices.
