SIX PAINTINGS by Regina Bachinska | axis Café

Regina Bachinska is a Ukrainian artist who left her home city of Odessa in early March when Ukraine was invaded by Russia. She had been packing to attend an art symposium in Egypt when forced to flee and had six small paintings to exchange with art colleagues in Egypt in a small bag. She arrived in Dublin with these six paintings and a small suitcase of clothes.

Regina was temporarily placed in the Ballymun Travelodge Hotel by Irish immigration officials, one of whom contacted Axis in the hopes that she might be able to connect with a creative community. Although Regina only got to spend 10 days in Ballymun before being relocated to Cork, we had many cuppas and chats. She asked us to exhibit these six paintings and we were able to buy her art materials so that she could continue to paint in our art room. She volunteered on the family day we hosted ahead of St. Patrick’s day with ‘I Am Irish’ and she taught us that soup should always be served with lunch for Ukrainians (among other things!).

Regina would like to sell these paintings in order to help her gain some independence as she finds her feet in Ireland. Should anyone wish to purchase one, please speak to a member of staff or leave your details at reception. We will ensure that all funds generated from this work goes directly to Regina. She is in regular contact with the Axis team via whatsapp and hopes to return to Dublin soon.
